Sweet Anthropomorphic Kittens In Bonnets Salt & Pepper Shakers

Darling, adorable, sweet, cuteness overload...I could go on and on!  Here we have a hard to find set of vintage anthropomorphic "Kittens in Bonnets" salt and pepper shakers made by PY Japan (Norcrest) in the 50's.

The colors and glaze remain bright and shiny, and they still have their original stoppers.  There are no cracks though there are some condition issues - the pink kitten has three small chips on the front(bonnet, scarf, ear) and two on the back (hat crown), while the grey one has one small chip on the top front brim of her bonnet.  Even with these imperfections they display beautifully!

PY Japan Anthropomorphic Smiling Blue Flower Salt & Pepper Shakers

These are so cute!  Vintage smiling blue flower salt & pepper shakers made by PY Japan in the 50's and 60's.  These sweet shakers have their stoppers and stand 3" tall.  They are in wonderful condition without cracks and have just a couple of small chips on one of the petals.  A wonderful addition to a collection!

PY Japan Countess Rose Butter Dish

The PY Miyao (Miyawo Company Ltd.)  began producing pottery in Japan in 1931 though it was not exported to the United States until  after WWII.  during the restoration.  The PY trademark was given exclusively to Miyao and from 1949 until 1961 they produced high quality novelties for American distribution.  

PY pottery is made with a soft clay earthenware prone to chipping and that is probably why so many of these pieces today have minor nicks and chips.  Regardless, PY novelties are still highly collectable because of their charming and brightly colored anthropomorphic fruits and vegetables, adorable children, exotic roosters and rose patterns, and not to be forgotten happy childhood memories of your grandmother's kitchen!

PY supplied many American distribution companies including Lefton, UCAGCO, Napco, and Enesco and that may be why pieces marked by these companies are similar.

This mid-century PY Countess Rose covered butter dish is in remarkable condition, without any cracks or hazing.  There is a smallish chip on one of the bud leaves on the lid, and a couple chips/fleabites on the underside of the plate which are unnoticeable when displayed.  Due to it's delicateness I do not recommend using this as an actual serving piece for butter, but it is a lovely, lovely addition to any collection or for display.
