Vintage Pyrex Homestead Brown on Tan Casseroles

Pyrex, when taken care of, can last a lifetime and then some!  While technically dishwasher safe, they should never be cleaned in a dishwasher or the paint coating will fade, and the dish will eventually loose it's sheen.  Still functional, yes...beautiful, no.  You should also not use sharp utensils or knives to cut in your Pyrex as it will scratch, and when storing they should not be nested inside each other.

Here we have a set of two vintage (473 - 1L and 475 - 2.5L size) Pyrex Cinderella casserole dishes in the Homestead Brown on Tan pattern, without lids. They are in nice vintage condition without any chipping, cracks, or fading. Though there are some scuff marks on closer examination near the bottoms they still display beautifully. They've been gently used for around 50 years and with care may be used for another 50!
Asking $25 Note:  All articles will be posted within 3 days of payment clearing, well packaged, insured and signed for.  Postage and packaging fees will be an amount in addition to the asking price of the article and may vary according to the location of the buyer.

Dominion Glass vintage " Saguenay" Creamer & Sugar Dish

When it comes to depression glass tableware,  names that come to mind are the glass-giants Hazel-Atlas, Jeannette, Anchor Hocking, Federal, and Imperial.  While not quite internationally known, Canadian glassmaker Dominion Glass did a pretty good job of supplying Canadian households with wonderfully functional and attractive glasswares during the first half of the 20th century.

The Saguenay pattern was produced from 1945-50 and is very similar to the Jeannette American Homespun pattern and consists of a series of  thin ribs with horizontal cross-ribs forming a grid-like pattern.  It was produced in clear crystal and crystal with pastel, fired-on colors.  Relatively unknown in the international depression-glass arena, these vintage pieces are still reasonably priced.

Here we have a lovely footed, clear crystal cream pitcher and open sugar bowl in the Saguenay pattern.  It is in beautiful condition without cracks or chips.  The pitcher measures approximately 3 1/4" tall and the sugar bowl 3 1/8" with a 3 1/2"diameter.  Sold as a set.

A nice piece of Canadian glass history!

Asking - $15

Vintage JAJ Pyrex " Cottage Rose" Covered Casserole Dish

In 1885 James A. Jobling  (a.k.a. JAJ) acquired the Wear Flint Glassworks in Sunderland, UK, and in 1921 patented the rights to manufacture Pyrex.  It was produced for another 50 years until the patent expired and Corning Glassworks, New York, took over the company and started using the Pyrex England back-stamp.  It was in the 1950's that opal (milk glass) Pyrex was first made and was produced until the 1990's in a vast range of designs.

Here we have a vintage JAJ England  Pyrex 2.5 quart casserole dish in the "Cottage Rose" pattern, produced around 1970.  It has a diameter of 8.75" and is in excellent condition without cracks, stains, chips or rough edges, and the colors have remained bright.  The lid is also Pyrex, No. 35, but does not look like the other lids I have seen online for this casserole, so it may be a replacement.  It has a beautiful embossed petal starburst circling the knob that I have not been able to find images of, so it is truly unique.  There is a chip on the knob that is largely unseen and is otherwise in great condition.

When Pyrex is taken care of (and not washed in a dishwasher or scratched by knife cuts) it can look beautiful, and last a long, long, time.  With care I imagine this casserole will be enjoyed for another 50 years!

Pink Sawtooth Ruffled Edged Milk Glass Cand Dish

Milk glass is a translucent/opaque milk white or colored glass that was first produced during the 16th century in Venice.  There is a whole scientific process for turning glass into milk glass which involves the addition of opacifiers to the melt, changing the refractive index.  Boring!

Lets just say it's lovely with it's creamy translucency.  It is also highly prized and collectable and these pieces are no exception.  Here we have a wonderful set of two sawtooth ruffled edge candy dishes with pink edging.  Not to be considered true hobnail, they are a pressed diamond cut hobnail.  The larger of the two is 7" square and the smaller 4 1/4" square and both pieces are in excellent condition without chips, cracks, scratches, and the edges are smooth and free of any roughness.  They are a wonderful addition to any milk glass collection.  Sold as set.

Asking - $18

Tupperware Pearly Pink Midgets

Tupperware was developed in 1946 by Earl Tupper, a chemist and inventor from Leominster, Massachusetts.   Plastic was not a very popular material back then being somewhat hard and rigid and often stank (being a by-product of the oil refining process) but through experimentation Tupper developed a plastic that was flexible, odorless, non-toxic, durable, and light weight, and used it to make sealable storage containers.

He patented his revolutionary seal in 1949 and started to sell his product in stores but it didn't do very well.  It wasn't until the 1950's that the party concept was introduced and it did so well that Tupper stopped selling his product in stores and sold it exclusively through home parties, and to this day it is still it's only form of distribution.

Here we have a set of 10 unused pearly pink 2 oz. Midgets with lids that would be great for storing those small bits, salad dressing or dips, sauces, spices, etc.  The lids are made to be air/water tight and can be hard to close when they are new.

The Cube or Cubist pattern was a popular pressed-glass, depression era pattern produced by the Jeannette Glass Company from 1929 - 1933.  Here we have a beautiful pink cubist sawtooth edged tri-footed dish.

This piece is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks, scratches, or rough edges.  Measures 6 1/4" diameter and 2 1/4" high and is a heavier, thicker dish.

Colored glass from this era is highly collectable for it's rarity and esthetic quality.  This piece fits a romantic décor and looks beautiful on a table or dresser and can be used to hold candy, nuts, keys, jewelry, or your change.

Sweet Anthropomorphic Kittens In Bonnets Salt & Pepper Shakers

Darling, adorable, sweet, cuteness overload...I could go on and on!  Here we have a hard to find set of vintage anthropomorphic "Kittens in Bonnets" salt and pepper shakers made by PY Japan (Norcrest) in the 50's.

The colors and glaze remain bright and shiny, and they still have their original stoppers.  There are no cracks though there are some condition issues - the pink kitten has three small chips on the front(bonnet, scarf, ear) and two on the back (hat crown), while the grey one has one small chip on the top front brim of her bonnet.  Even with these imperfections they display beautifully!

Vintage Glass Pedestal Wedding Cake Box With Lid

I have seen many of these lidded boxes online, manufactured by the Jeannette Glass Co. in the 50's and 60's.  They were produced and painted in a few different colors in addition to clear, such as blue, green, and amber, and some have gold trim.

The box on this one has fine stippling on the outside surface and measures 6 1/2' tall and 4" square with a 2 1/2" square base.  I feel this one may have at one time been painted blue as there are a couple of small flecks of blue paint around seams, largely un noticed.  It is in great condition without cracks or chips.

They were made to hold the brides wedding cake and when it was presented to her at the wedding, the lid was removed and set under the dish.  Very elegant, even if it was only a dime-store item at the time.  I don't know if it's still a custom at modern weddings to use wedding cake boxes, but it should be!

Vintage Pressed Glass 12" Cake Stand

Lovely vintage cake stand made by KIG Malaysia/Indonesia Glass company.  KIG has been making these attractive pressed glass/sandwich glass  tableware items since the late 60's I believe, but sometimes they have also been credited for producing colored depression glass.   What they produced is "depression like" glass, and they are still in business today.  Their glass is pretty though and very well made and stands the test of time.

This attractive pedestal cake plate is a lovely serving piece that would be nice as a centerpiece on your table displaying petit fours or fancies,  hor d'oeuvres, or even fruit and cheese.   Why limit yourself to just cake!

Asking - $15

Jeannette Glass " Cubist" Creamer & Sugar Bowl Set

Fostoria Glass Co.'s most successful line (#2056) was American and was produced from 1915 up until the plant closed in 1986 and it is one of their most copied and most misidentified patterns of all time.   These are NOT Fostoria American, they are Jeannette Cubist pattern.

The Jeannette Glass co. produced the Cubist pattern mainly between 1929 to 1933 with most of it being in colored glass.  Scarce now these colored pieces are hard to find, but the clear crystal individual creamer and sugar bowl were produced for a much longer period and are still fairly plentiful.

One difference between Fostoria American and Jeannettes Cubist is that Fostoria triple-fired theirs to make a much smoother, clearer finish to their glass.  The second way to tell the difference is in that the handles on a Fostoria set extend to the top of the piece whereas on a Jeannette they are further down, about half an inch.

The verdict is in and it is that this  Jeannette Cubist creamer and sugar bowl is a lovely set worthy of gracing any table!  No chips or cracks, they are in fabulous condition.
